I was partner carrier with Bolt. Many of my business associates and friends have been lease O/O’s or fleet drivers for Bolt Express.

As a former moderator for Expediters Online I began to recieve many emails regarding the business practices at Bolt Express. I told them that I would investigate their claims and post any information (positive or negative) regarding the company.

After sorting through the emails and speaking with numerous folks who had dealings with Bolt Express and I was quite dismayed with my findings.

1. They advertised that they paid 65% of loaded rate. A closer look at their lease contract indicated it was 65% of 95%. Drivers said they hurried through the contract at orientation with the typical comments such as, ‘just sign here and here and initial here and you can read through it later on.’

2. They told drivers that if they accepted every load and delivered on time for 3 months that they would get a bonus. When the drivers asked for their money, they were told the contract had been admended.

3. Prior to attending orientation one O/O asked if he would be allowed to retain his LLC graphics on his truck doors. He was told that it would not be a problem. After class he went out to view his truck, he was shocked to see that Bolt Express had removed his personal graphics. They never reimbursed him the $250 he paid to have those graphics applied to his truck.

4. Bolt Express has one of the highest turn-over rates in the industry. That should send a signal to anyone considering doing business with them. When the majority of carriers have a freeze on bringing new trucks into their fleets, Bolt Express continues take on new trucks. And it is not because they have more freight than other carriers.

5. Bolt Express exsists because Tri State decided to stop hauling automotive frieght. Considering the current state of the auto industry it is just another reason to forget about doing business with Bolt Express.

6. I know of one cargo van driver that was involved in a fatal accident. I am surprised that the DOT did not investigate the QC information regarding the driving time of this O/O. Although trucks under 10,001 lbs GVWR are not subject to maintaining a logbook reflecting HOS, they are subject to ‘Reckless Operation’ laws. Allowing a cargo van operator to drive for 11+ hours without an 8 hour break is simply dangerous. I know of O/O’s who brag about driving 20 hours straight.

7. As for me personally, when I posted the results of my investigation on Expediter’s Online, I thought I was doing the right thing in hopes that Bolt Express would investigate these issues and complaints. They responded with a phone call stating that they were cancelling my partner carrier agreement for statements that I made regarding their company. Basically, they have no intentions of addressing the truth surrounding the way they conduct their business after being presented with a plethora of factual information.

For a month and a week, working at Bolt Express, I have not gotten paid. Every week excuses were being made to why I wasn’t getting paid. I have made fifty plus runs, totaling over four thousand dollars, and have not seen a penny of it. They wanted to take the truck deceitfully and fire me without paying me; by asking me to come to Ohio. They said, They would like to talk to me, thus trying to fire and strand me. They attempted to do this with out paying me. Which would have left no way back, to my home state, to Indiana.
After getting home to file charges on them, they try to say they are going to sue; file theft charges on me for taking the truck back home instead of taking it to Toledo, OH. They pulled me from the truck, on their system, while I was in Grand Rapids, MI; after I dropped the load. Have the business practices learned by going to classes given by the devil himself. After I got home, I called the police to file a complaint. I let them know that as of Monday, this being a Friday night, that I was filling a Labor Lean on the truck.
Before I could do that, they came and got the truck. They laugh saying, now they’re going to prosecute me because they had to come get the truck. Saying that they can do that because they can afford a lawyer and I can’t. They also made the statement that maybe before I signed on with them I should have read my contract; they don’t have to pay me. They literally said, “You can’t afford to prosecute…because we have all your money!” They laughed at me as they took the truck and flipping me the bird; some company. What they did to me, was starve me on the road, keeping me out there, and keeping me running as hard as they could. Then when I had lost my personal truck, my home, and all my money they never paid me.
Now I’m homeless, careless, and my bills are through the roof. My credit is maxed out, because I was forced to put fuel in the truck to keep it on the road. The whole time I was told that if I left they would have me arrested for abandonment… woooo!!!!! It scares the heck out of me to know that a company like that can get away with this and yet I’m the bad guy. I was a driver there as well and i can tell you… i was not payed either! but… Bolt Excuse. used the day old line ‘ its not are problem if are driver’s don’t get payed that ill have to take it up with my owner of my truck’ but i say Bolt! it is your problem you hire and employee the owners of those trucks you are just as guilty and after a long and hard court case i got my pay plus back pay. fight hard for your money they will pay big in the end.. There are a lot of nasty co. out there bolt is just one of them. i work for a new co. now but we steal have lots of drivers coming over from that co. they all have the same compliant. that,there drivers where going weeks with out pay and some got none at all shame on you Bolt Express shame. if i had my way i would have put them out of business a long time ago they about bankrupted me as well.. and a lots of other driver i know too… )if you go to bolt for a job don’t expect that you will get a pay check every week its a crap shoot and if you do get a weeks pay check it they likely riped you off…. this is good to see someone els that is standing up to the trucking clowns at bolt express and there truck owner hold them accountable and don’t back down….. i wished i knew this sight before i got employed there thinks rip off he has a hard fight ahead. wished the news could report those Jerks a lot of others would sheerly come forward…CathycatbabyREDONDO, WA, WashingtonU.S.A.\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Well, i have had my first and very last month with bolt-express this company is a rip off for sure after a 4 week term with them my team player and i got shafted with checks that never lived up to contract dispatchers will tell you anything that is possible to get you to do the run and tell you that your getting so much per load however when it hits the qcom you are stuck with what they issue and that wont even pay your fuel. Sir charge what is that they tell you that you are given 50% fs but they list it as a advance as if you took cash from them ho hum .So if you are thinking about going with this company reconsider it liers they are every one of them walk on thin ice with bolt-express and never be able to pay any bill that you owe ever ……..Take this job and shove it for sure keekeeboo<><
